WHAT IS LAX-ABLED?
HISTORY
LAX-ABLED, an adaptive lacrosse initiative, is formerly known as Makenna's Girl Scout Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest-earning award in Girl Scouts. After completing her Bronze and Silver Awards with her Girl Scout troop, she immediately knew that she wanted to earn the Gold Award. The process of earning the Gold Award is strategic and tactical, including a minimum of 80 hours of in-depth planning to provide sustainable change within the community. Makenna completed her Gold Award on August 18, 2022.
Makenna, a senior at Chardon High School, grew up wanting to help others. She was influenced to start a lacrosse clinic for people with disabilities ages 10-21 years old. By combining her passion for lacrosse and her empathy to help others, LAX-ABLED was created.

Makenna is also a Morgan's Message Ambassador and advocate for mental health awareness.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are recruited to be a part of the LAX-ABLED family! They are all appreciated for the amount of work and time they put into each clinic session. Volunteers come from all different backgrounds including being on a lacrosse team, coaching one, or working with people with special needs. It is important to LAX-ABLED that the "coach" to player ratio is 1:1 so that each player gets the necessary instruction.
To volunteer, please email laxabled@gmail.com for further information.
CLINICS
Each clinic session runs for two hours, with skill-based instructions and active gameplay. Equipment is provided onsite. For more information about LAX-ABLED Clinics, please click the "Clinic Information" tab.
